Adventure Wedding in Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree Wedding Photographer

There is something special about the desert, Joshua Tree in particular. This place has my heart for all the right reasons. Joshua Tree National Park holds this mesmerizing energy and captivates me in such a way that I cannot fully explain. Back in 2016, I visited the park for the first time for an eclectic wedding inspiration shoot. The moment I laid eyes on the unique land, I was attached. I knew I had to get back to this place, and I hadn't even left it yet.

Fast forward to December 2017, here I was camping at Indian Cove Campground preparing for Jess and Kylen's adventurous wedding in Joshua Tree National Park! This was a destination wedding for an Ohio couple who had never been to the desert before, and what joy it was exploring the lands with them capturing their beautiful love along with the gorgeous landscape.

All the details of the day spoke to my soul. Jess had quartz crystal jewelry and a stunning hair piece, nonperishable bouquet made of preserved flowers and wood, a bohemian wedding dress, and an amazing uncut raw diamond engagement ring. What I love the greatest about intimate weddings is the fact that the couple is surrounded by the souls that love them the most, all the fluff is left out, and the essence of authentic love is all that's in focus. Hey Universe, feel free to send me these kindred spirits all day, every day. I crave adventure weddings and intimate elopements. My favorite.

After getting ready with the couple at a hotel in Twentynine Palms, we made our way to Joshua Tree National Park where Jess and Kylen would exchange vows in an intimate wedding ceremony in the desert at Cap Rock. An aisle of sand surrounded by cactus and boulder rocks is a dream scene.

The officiant had the wedding rings passed around in a ritual bowl for all the guest to individually say a prayer and fill the commitment bands with loving and positive energy before the rings were exchanged.

Tip for anyone getting married in the desert or even just hiking around, watch out for the fucking cacti. These boogers are the devil. The best man was attacked during the formal family and friends portraits. The stances kept getting wider as I had to add more people in the shots. Wider, wider, and BAM, the needles went full attack mode. I cringed at the pain I knew he was experiencing, still taking photos because I'm hear to capture all the moments, but all I could think about was my first time in Joshua Tree and stepping on a cactus needle myself. The story was hilarious, and you can read about it here on the blog if you want a good chuckle.

After all the guests left, we trekked out on an intimate adventure. We explored a few trails in the park as we watched the sunset in the distance. Oh Joshua Tree, you'll always be in my memory.

The newlyweds met their family and friends back in Twentynine Palms for a casual dinner reception at Bistro Twentynine to celebrate their love. The couple met through the sport of fencing and found it fitting to include that on their wedding cake topper (adorable!). The couple didn't plan to have any music during the evening, but we were surprised with a duo that happened to be scheduled to play an acoustic set that night at the restaurant. Jess and Kylen got to share their first dance at the reception after all, and of course the matron of honor had to have her go at it too. All the feels for this one y'all!
