High above the pines with snow below our feet, Kaila and Jay exchange vows in an adventure elopement in Rocky Mountain National Park. Colorado is home to some of the most beautiful terrain, and to stand among its greatness committing to a life together is extraordinary.
We began the day trip from Denver to Estes Park expecting a fairly easy hike to our destination. Hello unforeseen weather conditions. We knew it would be on the chilly side for an early spring day, but we didn't consider the 50" of snow that blew through just days before. Luckily the National Park ranger recommended us renting snow boots and spikes from a sporting goods shop in town. Incredibly thankful for the advice because it was a slip and slide even with proper footing. After a wrong turn that took us to the other end of the park (blame it on deep conversations about John Mayer and the love of music), we made it to the trailhead. Ascending to a near 10,000 ft elevation with absolutely breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains, Jay helped Kaila get changed into her dress and prepare for their intimate ceremony.
The couple just so happens to be destination wedding videographers and decided to bring their new Super 8 film camera along for a little fun. Kaila created a beautiful rendition of the adventure compiling a mix of the nostalgic film and photography.
Holy Mother Nature, this place and their passionate love is enough to bring tears to your eyes.
As the sun began to set, we had one more stop before the adventurous elopement concluded. Jay sang his bride a heartfelt song with poetic lyrics he wrote just for her about their love story. To say the least, my emotions got the best of me.
